Amtrak funding for Stuart in jeopardy—action needed today

Dear Downtown Stuart supporters,

Your efforts to bring Amtrak passenger service to Stuart have led to a $118 million pledge to the project from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). That money, combined with Amtrak’s resources, could bring passenger service back to Stuart as soon as 2014-15.

However, there’s a real possibility the state will put that money elsewhere in its budget.

To make sure this money stays with the Amtrak/FEC project, and passenger train service comes to the new Flagler Avenue Transit Depot between downtown and East Stuart, downtown supporters and small business owners need to call Governor Rick Scott and the Department of Transportation TODAY.

Tell them that restoring passenger rail service to 8 million Floridians and the economic opportunities and jobs the project creates are too important to pass up. Insist that FDOT’s funding be kept in place.

If you can, please call our Legislative Delegation too.

Time is of the essence.

All the contact information you need is below.

Thanks very much,

Thondra Lanese

East Stuart Main Street Program Manager

PLEASE NOTE:  It is best that you contact both FDOT and the Governor’s by phone, however an additional email to both as well as the legislative representatives is also highly recommended.  Detailed contact info is provided below for your convenience.
