Dancin’ In the Streets turns 25, announces musical line up

The Treasure Coast’s most popular and longest running street party, Dancin’ in the Streets, returns to the streets of Downtown Stuart Saturday, August 25 from 6 p.m. to midnight. This year Dancin’ in the Streets is celebrating its 25th anniversary with four stages of live music, tribute bands, street performers, food, vendors, kid’s activities, a car show, outdoor dance club, half pipe skate ramp, and more.

Dancin’ in the Streets is an end of summer tradition that goes back to 1987. In those days, Downtown Stuart was nearly deserted and the revitalization program, Stuart Main Street was just getting started. A handful of business people banded together to promote the district and start bringing people back to Stuart’s historic downtown. Dancin’ in the Streets was their first event and fundraiser.

“As we were cleaning up the next day a young man drove by and shouted ‘great party, lady’,” says Annie MacMillan, one of the founding members of Stuart Main Street and committee chairperson for this year’s event. “Then he asked if we were going to do it again the next year.”

Twenty-five years later, Stuart is still Dancin’ in the Streets. The annual event draws thousands of visitors to downtown Stuart and is still Stuart Main Street’s largest fundraiser – helping to fund a variety of programs supporting the development of Downtown Stuart as well as popular downtown events throughout the year including the 4th of July fireworks and the Christmas parade.

This year Stuart Main Street has collaborated with the Downtown Business Association of Stuart to present the event. Also new will be the seven tribute bands bringing the festivals four main stages to life. Acts will include Alter Egos – an Eagles tribute band on the Riverwalk Stage with the Jimmy Buffet tribute show Live Bait; Earthbound Misfits, a Pink Floyd tribute act, the Led Zeppelin experience Ramble On; Livin’ on a Prayer and Never Stop Believing – Bon Jovi and Journey tribute acts; and an Elvis impersonator.

Tickets to the event are $10.00. Children 5 and under are free. For more information on sponsor, vendor, and volunteer opportunities, please contact event coordinator Rachel Snyder 772-370-2030.
