SMS supports Colorado Ave. modifications at CRA meeting

From A section of Colorado Avenue will be narrowed to two lanes and a single roundabout added to the road that sits between U.S. 1 and the historic downtown, under conceptual plans approved Monday.

The city’s Community Redevelopment Agency, which includes the five city commissioners, backed the modifications for the road that are intended to make the downtown road a gateway from U.S. 1 and more pedestrian- and business-friendly.

Stuart Main Street Board members attended the CRB meeting and voiced their support of the CRB-recommended hybrid plan. SMS President Raul Ocampo said Colorado is a future pedestrian corridor coming into Downtown Stuart and adding a roundabout will give merchants a bigger marketing window.
