Stuart Main Street Names Executive Director

STUART — Familiar to many downtown Stuart businesses and residents, Frank Mezzapelle was named Executive Director of the Main Street Program on Oct1.

As a volunteer, Mezzapelle has served since the mid-’90s on the Main Street board, including as president, leading its expansion beyond just Flagler and Osceola streets and seeing the completion of Stuart’s Sailfish Circle. After serving as president, he was named an ex officio member of the Main Street board, active in bringing Dancin’ in the Streets to Stuart, as well as numerous other events, including the Fourth of July celebration.

For 34 years he owned a retail business downtown, Van-Dee Decorating Center, and is a radio producer for St. Lucie Radio Broadcasters’ local station, WSTU, notable for broadcasts of Mrs. Peters Party Time, The K.C. Ingram Show hosted by K.C. Ingram, and the Martin County Difference hosted by Julia Sansevere.

He also continues to be an active member in Stuart Kiwanis since joining the civic club shortly after he and his wife moved to Stuart in 1981.

Naming a manager is a major step in the growth of the award-winning Main Street program, which previously had been a responsibility of the Stuart Community Redevelopment Agency. The program’s focus is on historic downtown Stuart, preserving its heritage, while keeping its business community vibrant.

Among its most popular events are the Hobgoblins in October and Christmas on Main Street in November. Rockin’ Riverwalk Sunday concerts, monthly Mornings on Main Street. Heading into 2020 Stuart Main Street will continue to expand our programs.

“I look forward to working with our amazing Board of Directors and volunteers to continue the important work on all the development projects for residents and the business owners in the City of Stuart.” Mezzapelle said.

Mezzapelle is joined in his excitement by Stuart Mayor Becky Bruner, who told him, “I hope you have an amazing time making (Main Street) even better and brighter!”

Vice President/President Elect, Patty McAuley is quoted saying, “The board is excited to have Frank as part of the team. We are a board of volunteers who are dedicated to our mission of keeping Downtown Stuart a vibrant and fun place to live in and visit. We are happy to have an Executive Director who can provide leadership for us. I can’t wait to see what Stuart Main Street can accomplish over the coming year!”
